Online Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor course
The NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (2018) require that registrants who facilitate learning and assess students must be prepared for these roles.
In collaboration with our placement provider partners and the University of Essex, we have developed online workshops to prepare you to become a Practice Supervisor and, if requested to do so by your employer, a Practice Assessor.
A Practice Supervisor is a registered healthcare professional who supports and supervises students, providing feedback on their progress towards, and achievement of, proficiencies and skills (NMC, 2018).
A Practice Assessor is an NMC registrant who conducts assessments to confirm student achievement of proficiencies and programme outcomes for practice learning (NMC, 2018).
Before accessing the course
- Confirm with your employer what sessions you are required to complete and seek authorisation to undertake the course.
- Confirm with your employer the timeframe in which they expect you to complete all the learning activities.
- Identify if there is additional training in the organisation to accompany the course.
- Confirm what evidence your employer requires (for example, screenshots of quiz results, certificate, and/or completed course reflective log), and who in your organisation you are required to send it to.
Accessing and completing the course
- For optimal experience, use Google Chrome.
- It is also recommended to not access this course within an NHS network as this tends to not save course progress. We advise completing this eLearning on a home computer, where possible.
- Please carefully follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure that you have the facility to listen to audio content and are able to take screenshots and download materials as required.
- There are six sessions and six quizzes to complete. During each session, please complete all the related activities and scroll to the very end of each session section to register the session as completed. A tick will appear next to each session on the side panel once it is fully completed. All sessions and quizzes will need to be fully completed for a certificate to be generated at the end.

Please be advised that we will not be able to offer technical support/advice for employees of organisations outside the ARU placement circuit.
The course will open in a new window when you follow the link below.
