Work placements for ARU students

Students in classroom

Let our students help you

Employ a student or graduate to work in your business on an internship or formal work placement and share their knowledge and enthusiasm.

Students who are taking a placement course bring new ideas and an additional resource to your business. They can also add significant value to your organisation.

As an employer, you'll offer our students something, too: invaluable experience, knowledge, and contacts in an industry relevant to their course.

We believe in equipping our students with the skills, knowledge and experience that makes them highly desirable to employers. The work placement year forms an integral part of the degree course, giving students an insight into their subject or industry of choice as well as the employability skills they’ll need for their future career.

We have students on placements courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

A placement student can:

  1. Offer an enthusiastic and fresh approach to your business needs
  2. Bring specific skills and current academic knowledge into your workplace
  3. Provide an excellent solution to resourcing short term projects
  4. Give you the opportunity to get a head start recruiting the best graduate for your company
  5. Provide your staff with the opportunity to gain experience by supervising or mentoring a student
  6. Create effective links with ARU that can benefit your business, both now and in the future.

Timings

For undergraduates, these are 9-15 month placements which occur between their second and final year of study. They can start in January or between May and September.

For postgraduate students, placements are 12-34 weeks depending on the course, and start in January or September.

What support do the ARU Placements and Employer Engagement Team offer?

We act as a comprehensive and free recruitment service, with the aim of reducing the cost and effort of your selection process.

We can tailor our approach to your recruitment needs. For example, we can support by marketing your vacancy, identifying suitable candidates, shortlisting, arranging interviews and providing ongoing support for you and the student, both before and during the placement.

The student will also be assigned a dedicated Academic Supervisor, who will be in contact with the student to offer support with their academic needs and assessment.

"The placement process by the ARU team is a fantastic opportunity for both the students and ourselves. It allows students to gain new experiences, which can’t be taught in a classroom, and allows us to find new talent which we hope to secure a long-term position."
