They’ll attend a mock bail hearing, undertake a legal research task and explore specialist areas of business like accounting and finance, marketing, and management – helping them find where their passions lie.
Crime Taster Day

Your students will experience interactive sessions led by experts in a range of fields from online crime, counter terrorism, criminal psychology, policing and more. They’ll understand which types of roles might be best suited to their skills, attributes and interests as well as which ARU degrees and routes are best for a particular career path.
This Taster Day is suitable for students currently studying social sciences, criminology, law, psychology and more.

Crime Taster Day (Scenario Event collaborative faculties)
Step into the world of investigation and justice. Across three linked sessions, you’ll follow a single unfolding case, exploring it from different perspectives as new evidence comes to light. You’ll examine criminal behaviour and its causes, analyse forensic evidence to uncover key findings, and consider how the legal system responds to crime. Along the way, you’ll develop your analytical skills, as well as your ability to interpret evidence and information to form well-reasoned conclusions. Each session builds on the last, helping you piece together the bigger picture.Expect group discussion, interactive activities, and plenty of opportunities to test your theories in a supportive environment.

Forensic Science: Solve Crimes, Build Skills, Discover Careers
Do you have students fascinated by how science is used to solve crimes? Our Taster Day offers an engaging, hands-on introduction to the techniques and skills used in real investigations.
Perfect for students considering degrees in forensic science or related disciplines, this immersive experience allows them to step into the role of a forensic investigator. Through practical activities, they’ll explore areas such as crime scene investigation, evidence analysis, and the science behind uncovering clues while developing skills in observation, critical thinking and problem-solving along the way.
Students will get a true taste of university life by working in our specialist labs and crime scene rooms, using industry-relevant equipment and learning from experienced tutors. They’ll also meet current students and discover how a passion for science can lead to exciting careers in forensics and beyond.

Humanities & Social Sciences Taster Day (Scenario Event)
Follow a single unfolding scenario across three linked sessions, exploring it through different lenses as you go. You’ll consider how political systems and global relationships shape decisions, examine how the past influences the present, and reflect on human behaviour and society through philosophical and sociological thinking. Along the way, you’ll be encouraged to think critically, question assumptions, and engage in debate, recognising that complex issues often lead to different viewpoints. Expect interactive tasks, group discussion, and plenty of opportunities to share your thoughts and have your voice heard in a supportive environment. This is your chance to explore what it’s like to study these subjects in a way that is thought-provoking and relevant to the world around you.
Law and Ethics Taster Day
Your students will join us in exploring Law: From Theft to Mitigation Pleas. As they delve into legal principles through scenarios like ‘theft discussion’, they'll analyse guilt elements, sparking debates on dishonesty, appropriation and intent.
STEM Taster Day: From Curiosity to Career
This hands-on event invites sixth form or college students to explore the world of STEM through a selection of interactive workshops, live demonstrations and real-world challenges across psychology, sport science, computer science, life sciences and forensic science.
Led by expert tutors and supported by current university students, participants will work in specialist labs and teaching spaces, gaining practical insight into how these subjects can solve real-world problems and shape everyday life.
They'll also gain valuable insight into university study and explore potential career pathways, helping them to build confidence, curiosity and a clearer understanding of the exciting opportunities available in STEM.
