Research and Innovation Development Office (RIDO)

RIDO supports the delivery of ARU's Research and Innovation Strategy. Our aims are to work with academic colleagues and partners to solve civic challenges for local and global benefit; support the delivery of excellent research and innovation with global impact; help to grow impactful staff and student knowledge exchange and to be inclusive and professional in our support and delivery.

A number of individual teams make up RIDO, and they are responsible:

• promoting the research specialisms, including from our three major research, innovation and impact themes (health performance and wellbeing, safe and inclusive communities and sustainable futures) and business support available through ARU to external public, private and third sector organisations, to help solve real-world challenges
• administering our ARU Doctoral School to ensure that our Postgraduate Research (PGR) students, have a positive student experience, from the point of application through to award
• supporting the preparation and submission of high-quality research grant funding applications, leading on institutional research ethics and integrity policy and monitoring, implementing strategy and managing ARU’s engagement with the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
• working with strategic Local Government and health and care partners to deliver research impact, working with a range of stakeholders to accelerate innovation through the provision of facilities and support services
• proactively seeking opportunities for research commercialisation with partners, to support economic growth and create societal impact.
• supporting an inclusive programme of mutually beneficial student knowledge exchange with external partners
• facilitating ARU's civic engagement across our regions
