We’re proud to announce that four of our ARU colleagues have been chosen to be panel members for the criteria-setting phase of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2029.
The REF is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions and is carried out every six to seven years.
Professor Roderick Watkins, Vice Chancellor of ARU, said:
“We’re delighted that four ARU colleagues have been selected as panel members for the criteria-setting phase of the Research Excellence Framework 2029. It’s tremendous recognition of their expertise and the impact of our world-leading research.”

The last REF results were published on 12 May 2022, and confirmed that ARU had significantly increased the quality and impact of our research. We submitted research in 16 subject areas, and nine of those were judged to have achieved world-leading 'impact' – that is the change or benefit made to the wider world.
