Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Using our expertise and connections in Cambridge and beyond, we nurture creativity and critical thinking to educate, entertain, inspire and understand people, as well as improving their lives.

In the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, we nurture creativity through experimentation and risk-taking, and encourage critical thinking to educate, entertain, inspire and understand people, as well as improving their lives.

Our academics excel at both practice and theory, their expertise going beyond teaching and deep into industry. They make a real impact in their chosen fields, whether they are curating exhibitions, writing bestselling fiction or exploring how the past has shaped our modern world.

They are also active researchers, regularly published in catalogues, exhibitions, books, journals and conference papers, and securing major funding success. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, our research was classed as being of ‘international standing’, with some elements ‘world-leading’.

All this activity feeds directly into the lives of our students, giving them vital connections with industry to improve their employability, as well as keeping them up to date with the latest theories and practices from their field.

Being at the heart of Cambridge provides our staff and students with many links in a city bursting with creativity and research. Not only does it have a higher concentration of creative jobs than the UK average, it is also home to the University of Cambridge and their various arms, plus the many language schools, venues and cultural events across the city, creating the perfect environment for our students to gain experience both on and off the course.
