Careers

You'll have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to apply to register as a qualified social worker with Social Work England.

You could work as a social worker in a statutory setting and embark on the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). These are professional vocational courses supported by employers to promote graduate transition into the sector. Or, you could choose wider social work roles in the private, voluntary, and independent sectors.

You'll also have a range of transferable knowledge and skills such as communication skills, assessment and problem-solving skills and analytical thinking skills that could be used in a range of wider graduate roles.

We arrange employability fairs, talks by local employers and run events where you can meet our previous students who are now employed locally, so you can see the range of opportunities available to you on completion of the course. Local authority representatives attend annually to talk about their ASYE schemes and graduate roles and offer support by holding mock interviews.

Teaching and modules

Our lecturers are not just educators, but experienced social work practitioners from a range of specialisms, bringing real-world insights into the classroom.

The team are supported to develop and deliver the programme by both current social work practitioners and people with lived experience of social work services, embedding authentic perspectives of social work into your learning.

There's an emphasis on the importance of real-world contexts and placement experience. You'll engage in active and reflective learning, with lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, and personal supervision, as well as structured online activities, sessions outside the classroom and independent study.
