Working as a midwife

Midwifery is a rewarding career that puts you at the heart of some of the most important experiences in people's lives.

Modern midwives do so much more than just assist with birth. They work closely with other healthcare professionals to support women throughout pregnancy and childbirth. At ARU, we work with employers to make sure you graduate with the knowledge, skills and abilities you will need to take on this exciting career. They help us review what we teach and how we teach it – and they offer hands-on, practical opportunities to learn through placements. Most of our student midwives have secured jobs in Year 3 of their training.

Our course meets the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards for Pre-Registration Midwifery Education Programmes 2019. This means that when you graduate, you can apply to register with the NMC and start your career as a midwife.
