Studying dog grooming at Writtle College

Discover our Level 2 course, and facilities including a commercial dog grooming parlour.

This course is ideal if you have little to no previous experience of dog grooming.

We offer separate courses for 16-18 year olds, and students aged 19+.

  • 16-18 year olds: start in September and study one day per week over 35 weeks. You’ll be in college on either Monday or Wednesday, 9am-4pm. You'll also spend two days per week on work placement.
  • Aged 19 or over (daytime study): start in September or March and study one day per week over 18 weeks. You’ll be in college on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, 9am-5pm. There's no requirement to complete a work placement, but we strongly recommend it.
  • Aged 19 or over (evening study): start in September and study one evening per week over 31 weeks. You’ll be in college on Monday or Thursday, 5-9pm. There's no requirement to complete a work placement, but we strongly recommend it.

Hands-on learning

As a student at Writtle College you’ll take part in practical session in our dog grooming parlour, which is open to the public. It’s part of our dedicated Lordship Canine Centre and includes kennel space, grooming tables, a bathing area and preparatory spaces.

Careers and educational progression

After completing your Level 2 dog grooming course, you may choose to progress to our Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. This qualification covers the skills you need to work as a professional dog groomer.
