Because it’s right at the heart of campus, our Student Village is really close to all the University facilities. There are loads of high street shops, restaurants and cafes 15 minutes' walk away.
The 517 rooms are split into 110 flats, and most rooms are en-suite. There are also two launderettes and bicycle storage available for residents. The Student Village is managed by ARU, and our Housing Management team will be on hand to help you with any queries once you move in.
Chelmsford students would not normally reside at ARU Writtle. Accommodation will normally be allocated at the campus you are studying at. But, if no accommodation is available, you may be able to apply for a room at a nearby campus or seek accommodation in the private sector at a commutable location such as Colchester. Students with a current tenancy agreement who are studying on one of the following courses:
Students on these courses undertake shift-based placements where public transport may not offer the flexibility required.
Students with placements
£110 for the duration of your tenancy agreement (if you end your tenancy agreement early, you’ll no longer be able to park in the Student Village and you won’t receive a refund)
Blue Badge Holders
Free for the duration of your tenancy agreement (if you end your tenancy agreement early, you’ll no longer be able to park in the Student Village and you’ll need to speak to Student Services about parking on campus)
Once we’ve received your application form, we’ll email you to confirm your eligibility to park and tell you how to pay for the permit (costs outlined above). You’ll be given your permit when you arrive on campus. If you change your vehicle during your tenancy, complete and return an updated application form so the vehicle details on your permit are correct. We’ll seek confirmation of eligibility for parking from the Faculty for students studying Medicine who are in their 1st year.
As there are limited parking spaces, parking isn’t guaranteed even if you’re eligible to apply. If your application is unsuccessful, you’ll be notified before you arrive and won’t be able to use any of the University car parks.
If you park in any of the University car parks without a permit or authorisation, you’ll be in breach of your tenancy agreement. This may lead to disciplinary action and you’ll have to pay any set parking charges implemented by the University.
If the parking regulations are breached the following action will be taken:
If you wish to appeal against your termination of parking privileges then an appeal must be received in writing, addressed to the Residential Service Manager within 10 days of the date of the termination.
En-suite rooms (498 available) contain:
Kitchens (shared between three to six students)
