Support for service children

The support and events we can offer to schools and colleges to meet the needs of their Service children.

Service Children’s Progression Alliance (SCiP Alliance)

ARU and Take Your Place are proud hosts of the SCiP Alliance East Anglia Hub. Together we aim to offer support to the 6000+ Service children in our area. The Hub meets quarterly to discuss and understand the needs of Service children in the East of England. We benefit from having a wide cross-section of members to support one another in both research and delivery of events. Our collaborative approach allows us to address the barriers that Service children face and help them to overcome these on their educational journey.

Creative Forces Day

This event is aimed at Service children (both past and present!) to explore their unique identity, recognise the skills they’ve developed due to their background, and apply these to their educational and career goals.

There'll be current students from similar backgrounds to meet throughout the day, showcasing relatable role models for Service children.

The CFD programme specifically addresses common barriers faced by Service children, providing practical advice and support. It allows Service children to engage with higher education by taking part in a day of fun and interactive activities hosted at our Chelmsford, Cambridge and Peterborough campus. Students will have the opportunity to learn what university can offer, the careers available beyond higher education-level study, and to explore their ‘Service child' identity in the process. It's also an opportunity to build the capacity of schools to understand and support their Service children.

What age range is this event is for?

The event is for Service children* in years 7–11 and their teachers/advisors.

Although Creative Forces Days are designed to appeal to the military community, we encourage service children to bring a buddy to learn and experience the day too.
