CEEUPS aims to conduct innovative and impactful research in collaboration with practitioners in uniformed public services (UPS). Our mission is to promote equity, inclusion and wellbeing within UPS services by enabling transformational change that empowers the workforce. The Practitioner Fellowships form part of this approach.

What is a Practitioner Fellow?

Practitioner Fellows (PFs) are professionals currently employed within UPS who have an interest in research. As a PF, you'll collaborate with us, combining our academic expertise with your practical knowledge and experience to produce high-quality, equitable research evidence that informs both policy and practice.

From the start of the secondment, you'll be part of a large research team led by Prof Emma Williams, contribute your ideas, and be involved in creative research design, analysis, and – if you wish – writing up.

The PF role can be offered with various timeframes, depending on your availability and the project need. Your work and time here will be overseen by the Centre academic leading the particular project you're involved in.

Benefits

As a PF, you'll gain an insight into university work and learn more about how research is designed and carried out. You'll improve your evidence-based practice skills, which you can take back into your organisation. You'll also receive a certificate.

You'll help our research become more fully grounded in operational and organisational practices, enhancing both practice and academic outcomes.

Eligibility and additional details

Academic community engagement

While working at CEEUPS, you'll have opportunities to participate in team meetings, internal learning seminars, and events. ARU offers courses in various research methods, which you'll be welcome to join, subject to the research project's schedule.
