About the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Uniformed Public Services (CEEUPS)

Drawing on learning from the Veteran and Families Institute for Military Social Research (VFI), the Centre for Military Women's Research (CMWR), and the International Policing and Public Protection Research Institute (IPPPRI), in January 2024 ARU secured its largest-ever research grant of £11,305,900, to develop CEEUPS.

This included £1 million for a new social sciences research laboratory at our Chelmsford campus to enable the testing of new innovative and creative methods that challenge traditional relationships between researchers and the researched.

Funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), CEEUPS collaborates with public services such as police, fire, ambulance, paramedics, military, and prison services to address negative workplace behaviours, cultivate inclusive cultures, and build public trust.

Research strategy

In September 2025, we welcomed practitioners from across the uniformed public services to our research strategy launch event. Read more about the event.
