Mathew is an organisational sociologist interested in the application of organisational and political theory to examine the changing organisation and structure of sport systems within the UK and Canada.

Mathew joined ARU in June 2016 as a Senior Lecturer on the Coaching and Physical Education programme. Prior to joining ARU, Mathew was a Lecturer in Sport Development at the Plymouth Marjon University, UK (2014-2016).
He completed his BSc and MSc in Sport Management at Loughborough University (2006-2009) and PhD in Physical Education and Recreation (Sport Management) at the University of Alberta, Canada (2010-2014). His doctoral work examined the development of Canadian Sport for Life and the leadership team responsible for the creation and dissemination of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework.
Mathew also coaches youth basketball.
