Course: MSc Animal Behaviour: Applications for Conservation

My name is Afrika, and I'm from Scotland, where I did my undergraduate degree in Ecology and Conservation. I started the MSc course in Animal Behaviour: Applications for Conservation at ARU in September 2024 as a full-time student and have already gained so much from this experience.

One of the first things I noticed was how supportive how the academic staff were, and this has really encouraged me to take on new challenges such as starting a sustainability society.

I have found the course very engaging, there is a lot of freedom to work on assignments and projects that are unique to your interests, whether it be animal cognition, climate justice, or population dynamics and biodiversity. I have also appreciated the opportunities to gain real-world experiences through live briefs, and technical skills like GIS.

Aside from university, I enjoy reading a good sci-fi book or listening to a podcast and practicing aerial silks when I have the time. I also enjoy spending time in the Sustainability Society's garden plot on campus, it's a nice place to have a quiet moment. I am also part of the Cambridgeshire Mammal Group, where I sometimes take part in mammal surveys in and around Cambridge.
