SROI provides a comprehensive framework for measuring and accounting for the broader concept of value of a project or activity by incorporating social, environmental and economic costs and benefits. The SROI process gives a monetary value for all outcomes. This enables a ratio of benefits to costs to be calculated. For example, a ratio of 3:1 indicates that an investment of £1 delvers £3 of social value. This can be very powerful tool for a third sector organisation to have to demonstrate to a funder a case for continued investment.
It is often used to enable organisations to observe and measure what particular activities and services generate high and low value outcomes. Using this information organisation's can allocate funds in a more informed way. Organisations will be able to focus resources to where high value outcomes are anticipated taking into account all stakeholders (including funders).
