Kelly Laxton, BSc (Hons) Animal Management (Zoo and Wildlife Conservation)

By the time you graduate, you’ll have the confidence and skills to step straight into the animal industry.

You’ll know how to care for a wide range of species, understand health, nutrition and behaviour, and apply conservation strategies that make a real impact. Plus, with research, communication and networking skills under your belt, plus strong links to zoos and wildlife organisations, you’ll be ready for roles in zookeeping, conservation, education and beyond.

Teaching and modules

Our students gain professional practical skills in wildlife surveying and the opportunity to learn from experts at leading zoos.

Dr Jonathan Amory, Associate Professor

You’ll begin by exploring the fundamentals of animal management, covering biology, ethics and essential practical and professional skills.

In years two and three, you’ll build on your knowledge of these core topics by focusing on behaviour, breeding and animal health in relation to zoo animals and wildlife. Finally, you’ll complete an independent research project on a topic of your choice. It’s a great opportunity to dive deeper into an area that interests you in more depth while demonstrating everything you’ve learned.

Modules are subject to change and availability, and may vary by location. If you have the choice of optional modules, these are indicated with a *.
