Introduction

Take your first steps toward a career in sports and fitness with our Level 2 Diploma. Study at Writtle College and benefit from extensive sporting facilities and grounds.

As a student at Writtle College, you’ll learn theory in the classroom and get hands-on experience in our sports facilities.

You’ll study anatomy and physiology, sports performance, and fitness. There’s also the chance to explore areas such as outdoor and adventure activity, training, lifestyle and wellbeing, and leading sporting activities.

As well as learning in college, you’ll gain valuable experience on a work placement. You can choose to work towards the YMCA Level 1 Award in Fitness & Physical Activity too, a recognised qualification in the fitness industry.

Hands-on learning

As a student at Writtle College you’ll benefit from:

  • extensive sporting facilities including floodlit tennis and netball courts, football and rugby pitches, a squash court, cricket square, and sports hall
  • recreation and fitness centre equipped with cardiovascular and resistance machinery, functional fitness and free-weights area, and fitness studio
  • access to the latest equipment such as watt bikes, video analysis, and health-screening tools.

Careers and educational progression

Successful completion of this Level 2 Diploma in Sport gives you the option to progress to a Level 3 qualification. That, in turn, can lead to many roles in the health, sport and fitness industry.

You might work in areas such as coaching, performance analysis, sports therapy, marketing, fitness centre management, nutrition, psychology, personal training or teaching. You’ll also have the knowledge and skills to support people to make healthy lifestyle changes.

If you study outdoor adventure at Level 3, you could go on to work in outdoors or expedition planning and leading.
