Since completing her MA in Music Therapy in 2022, Yiu Lam Fong has gone on to found the community-focused Cambridge Music Therapy Ltd.
The organisation now supports more than 100 participants and works across eight care homes, schools, SEN settings and youth organisations.
Drawing directly on the clinical training, placements and mentorship she received at ARU, Yiu Lam launched her organisation shortly after graduating. Her dissertation research, which focused on dementia care, continues to shape her work today as she develops therapeutic approaches that prioritise dignity, communication and emotional connection.
In just over a year, Cambridge Music Therapy Ltd has grown into a thriving multi-disciplinary team of therapists and teachers. Yiu Lam’s leadership has been central to this rapid success, building a collaborative and inclusive environment focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for clients.
Her work has had a particularly strong impact within the dementia community. She has supported more than 100 residents in care settings, delivering tailored music therapy sessions that help reduce agitation, encourage communication and create moments of joy. Her sessions have been widely praised by care providers, with one resident requesting an outdoor session so others could 'see how well her work heals people'.
Beyond dementia care, Yiu Lam delivers sessions in schools, special educational needs (SEN) settings and youth groups, alongside community workshops and creative wellbeing events. Her Melodies of Winter fundraising concert brought together students, families and the wider community, highlighting her commitment to making the arts accessible to all.
She has also delivered free online seminars to support youth wellbeing and education, further demonstrating her dedication to community engagement. Looking ahead, Yiu Lam is developing the Cambridge Music Therapy CIO, a charitable initiative designed to expand access to therapy services for low-income families and children with additional needs.
Despite her growing reputation and increasing recognition, Yiu Lam remains grounded in her core values of inclusivity, compassion and integrity. She continues to explore new and creative ways to make music therapy accessible to those who may never have engaged with music before.
Yiu Lam's achievements reflect both the strength of her ARU education and her determination to use her skills to make a tangible difference. As she continues to grow her work and reach new communities, she is helping to transform lives through the power of music and human connection.
