Before you begin your course, you need to complete a 'Right to Study' check by sharing a copy of your ID. You’ll do this via the 'Right to Study Check' section of the registration task on your student portal, e:Vision.
All students are required to complete an ID check to prove that they have the right to study in the UK. A right to study ID check at ARU means we use an online tool to check the authenticity of your ID documents and verify your identity through a selfie. This is followed by an in-person check on campus to confirm that you match the selfie.
There are a few reasons why we need you to provide your ID.
During the registration task, you’ll be asked to upload a photo of your ID and then complete a quick face scan to verify that it’s you. The below ID documents are accepted. The specific document(s) required will be based on the information provided in your application and requested during the Right to Study check.
If your device is connected to Wi-Fi, make sure you have a strong connection. If the Wi-Fi connection is weak, try moving locations, or switch Wi-Fi off and use mobile data if you're able to. You can also try to complete the check on a different device if you have access to one.
Still not working? Come to the Registration Hub on campus during Welcome Week and Course Induction and we will help you. Don’t forgot to bring one of the following documents with you:
For students joining us from abroad or if you’re a non-UK national, please also bring your share code.
You get three attempts to complete the ID check. If the check fails after both attempts, please come to the Registration Hub on campus during Welcome Week and Course Induction and a member of staff will help you.
You might have already shown proof of your ID when you applied to be a student here, this is usually if your course needed an interview or DBS check. The Right to Study check is separate from this and needs to be completed before you begin your course.
Take a look at the 'If you're joining us from abroad or are a non-UK national' section below for more information about how to get a share code.
You can visit the Registration Hub on campus during Welcome Week and a member of staff will manually scan and validate your ID.
You’ll need to provide your share code and eVisa, as well as complete the ID check. You can find details on how to do this below.
If you’re on a student visa, you’ll also need to provide your flight ticket or boarding pass to show the date you entered the UK.
If you're having problems completing the ID check online, come to campus during your Course Induction and Welcome Week and a member of staff will help you. Make sure you bring your ID with you.
If you’ve been granted a student visa, you must create and open your UKVI account, and activate your electronic visa (eVisa). This is a simple process, so just follow the instructions you received from the UKVI when your visa was granted.
Once your UKVI account is activated, you can generate a student ‘share code’ as evidence of your student visa. ARU will need your share code to prove you have permission to study in the UK.
The process to activate your UKVI account and generate a share code can take 30 minutes or more so please complete this process as soon as possible to avoid any delays to your registration with ARU.
To find out more about how to create your UKVI account, activate your eVisa and generate your share code, watch the useful video on the UK Government site.
