Selena qualified in 2009 from the University of Derby; since then she has worked in many varied roles in Essex and East London, most recently specialising in working with adults with learning disabilities.

Selena began her career journey working in an acute hospital and then in community settings in both mental and physical health, which afforded her a strong foundation for her ongoing career. She then worked within a community mental health team in Essex before joining a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME service. In this area she was able to use all her skills to support clients holistically in order to manage their fatigue levels and to work towards engaging in valued occupations.
Selena was motivated to train to become an Occupational Therapist whilst working for Mencap as a support worker for people with learning disabilities; and this has always been where her real passion and interest lay. Subsequently in 2017 she began working within a community learning disability team in London, where she continues to work part-time alongside lecturing. She loves using all her Occupational Therapy skills, guided by the Model of Human Occupation, to complete assessments and interventions with clients helping them to live the lives they want to live.
Learning disabilities and Occupational Therapy group work interventions
Selena is new to research but through facilitating a journal club in her clinical work, she is very interested in exploring new journals around OT run groups for people with a learning disability. She is also a Carer’s champion for her team in her clinical role and therefore is interested in the role of the OT in supporting carer’s with their caring role.
