Leighanne is a qualified social worker and has been practising in the area of family safeguarding, working closely with families who are subject to Child Protection Plans/ Child in Need plans or are going through the pre proceedings and care proceedings framework. Leighanne has had the opportunity to guest lecture for ARU students. Following her experiences of guest lecturing, Leighanne has made the recent move into social work education joining ARU as a Senior Lecturer Practitioner in Social Work in August 2022.

Background

Leighanne qualified as a Social Worker in 2010 from Royal Holloway, University of London. She has held roles mostly in family safeguarding with a brief time working with Children Looked After and very recently in a Court Team which focused on families who were in public law care proceedings. Leighanne has worked in four Local Authorities giving her the opportunity to work with Frontline programme students, implement family safeguarding intervention modules and adopt motivational interviewing as an approach to assist families in effecting long term and sustainable change.

Research interests

Leighanne is particularly interested in children and young people’s access to and experiences with mental health services, systemic practice and what we could learn from the recent pandemic.
