Background

Harriet has specific knowledge and interest in sheep and beef production. Raised on a family beef farm in East Anglia, where she now keeps a small flock of sheep, she brings practical, lived experience to her research and teaching.

Harriet holds a PhD from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and the University of Edinburgh, with research focused on applying technologies to sheep systems in extensive Scottish hill environments. She teaches and researches livestock welfare, how farmers adopt and integrate new technologies, and practical ways to improve productivity and the efficiency of modern livestock systems. Her work also explores how these innovations can support regenerative agriculture, helping farms build long‑term environmental resilience.

Research interests
  • Precision Livestock Farming: using technology to monitor and manage production animals.
  • Integrating livestock into arable rotations.
  • Regenerative farming practices utilising livestock.
  • Livestock technology adoption and the role women play.
Areas of research supervision

Harriet welcomes enquiries from prospective research students in the areas of her research interests.
