Elena is a Registered Adult Nurse and Lecturer Practitioner in Nursing, with clinical experience in critical and primary care. Her teaching and research interests focus on nursing education, public health, and the prevention and management of chronic diseases. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and is committed to developing research that informs education and patient care.
Elena’s clinical background includes cardiothoracic critical care, caring for patients undergoing heart and lung transplantation and pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) surgery. This experience strengthened her interest in prevention, healthy lifestyles and the long-term management of chronic conditions. She subsequently moved into primary care, gaining experience in diabetes reviews, wound care and childhood immunisation.
Before joining Anglia Ruskin University in 2023, Elena taught Health and Social Care in further education. She has since completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and gained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. She submitted her MSc in Medical and Healthcare Education dissertation in September 2026 and is awaiting confirmation of the award, expected at the end of October 2026.
Elena’s research interests include nursing education, student support, vaccine hesitancy and health misinformation, alongside the prevention and management of chronic diseases. She is particularly interested in how people’s beliefs, access to information and social circumstances influence health behaviours, and how nurses and educators can support informed decisions and reduce health inequalities.
Elena is first author of a collaborative study exploring adult nursing apprentices’ experiences of challenges and support. Analysis has been completed, and she is working with two colleagues towards publication.
Her MSc research, Vaccine Hesitancy and Health Misinformation in Nursing Education: A Qualitative Study of Educators’ Perspectives, explored how UK nursing educators address these topics within undergraduate curricula. The study identified variable and often implicit coverage, differences in educator confidence, and a need for more structured, applied teaching on vaccine communication and misinformation. Elena intends to develop this work for publication and continue building her research experience. She aspires to pursue PhD studies, with interests spanning nursing education, public health, health behaviours and inequalities.
Elena teaches across the undergraduate nursing curriculum at Anglia Ruskin University, including the adult nursing apprenticeship programme. She is Module Leader for Applied Health Science Across the Life Span and contributes to lectures, clinical skills teaching, assessment and student support. As a Personal Development Tutor, she supports students’ academic and professional progress. Her teaching draws on her clinical experience and uses applied activities to help students connect bioscience, evidence and nursing practice.
Research manuscripts are in development, including work on adult nursing apprentices’ challenges and support and vaccine hesitancy and health misinformation in nursing education.
