Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements

for students coming from Canada to ARU

For entry to a bachelor’s degree (year 1), we will consider the following qualifications:

  • A recognised foundation programme
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma 

  • International Advanced Levels (A Levels)

  • Alberta - General High School Diploma with at least 65% in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • British Columbia - Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma with 5 Bs in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • Manitoba - High School Graduation Diploma with 5 credits at 300 level in at least 4 subjects with at least 65% in each
  • New Brunswick - High School Graduation Diploma with a least 65% in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • Newfoundland - High School Graduation Diploma with 70% in 6 subjects at 3000 level/ Grade 12 or 65% in 9 subjects Grade 12
  • North West Territories - General High School Diploma with an average of at least 65% in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • Nova Scotia - High School Completion Certificate with an average of at least 65% in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • Ontario - Secondary School Diploma with at least 70% in 6 4U or 4M subjects (including 4U in English)
  • Prince Edward Island - High School Graduation Diploma with at least 65% in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • Quebec - Diplome d'Etudes Collegiales (DEC)
  • Saskatchewan - Completion of grade 12 with at least 65% in 5 grade 12 subjects
  • Yukon Territory - Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma with a minimum of 5 Bs in at least 5 grade 12 subjects.

For entry to a master’s degree, we will consider the following qualifications:

• A recognised pre-masters course

• Bachelors (Honors) Degree with a CGPA of 6 or above (out of 9) or 2.7 or above (out of 4.0).

For entry to a research degree, we will consider overseas qualifications equivalent to a UK Master’s degree. Please visit our postgraduate research pages for more information on the application requirements.

If you don't hold one of the qualifications above then  ARU College can help. ARU College provides foundationfirst year and pre-masters courses, designed to prepare you for entry to your chosen degree.

English requirements

If English is not your first language you will need to be able to show you have the required level of English language. This is so we can ensure you'll be able to follow your course.

  • Our standard entry criteria for undergraduate courses is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
  • Our standard entry criteria for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses is IELTS 6.5, with nothing lower than 5.5 in any of the four elements (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

If you don't meet our English language requirements, our Language Centre offers a range of courses which could help you achieve the level required for entry onto a degree course.
