1. Tell us about yourself
I’m an author, entrepreneur, and building safety professional working in the construction and housing sector. I’m passionate about creating safer, better living environments and using my voice to empower others, whether that's through mentoring, speaking, or simply sharing my journey.
Outside of work, I love going to Pilates, it helps me stay grounded and focused. I also find real joy in encouraging people to step into their purpose and realise their potential. Whether it’s through my writing, work, or everyday conversations, I believe in making a positive impact wherever I can.
2. What is your fondest memory of Anglia Ruskin University?
My fondest memory is the friendships I made, many of which have become lifelong connections. I also had incredibly supportive lecturers who helped guide me through what initially felt like a daunting journey.
No one really prepares you for the reality of transitioning from school straight into adulthood, where the decisions you make can shape your future in many ways. Having that support system at ARU made all the difference. It gave me the space to grow, feel seen, and truly find my place, not just in university, but in life.
3. What has been your favourite job?
I’ve genuinely enjoyed every role I've had so far, they’ve each played a part in shaping my journey. But without a doubt, the most meaningful has been my work in building safety. It’s more than just a job it’s about protecting lives, rebuilding trust, and being part of something that truly matters. Knowing that my work contributes to people feeling safe and secure in their homes gives me a deep sense of purpose. It’s the kind of role that reminds me daily why I do what I do.
4. In one word, how would you describe Anglia Ruskin University?
Defining.
5. How did your time at ARU help you?
My time at ARU helped me realise that what I initially went there to study wasn’t what I wanted to do long-term, and that was a valuable lesson. It gave me the space to reflect, grow, and begin to understand what truly mattered to me.
Even though my career path has taken a different direction, ARU played a key role in setting me up for where I am now. It was a foundation, not just academically, but personally. And honestly, if I could go back and do it all over again I absolutely would!
6. What did you love about your chosen course?
I’ve always had a natural love for drama and performing arts, so what I appreciated most was that the course allowed me to fully be myself. It gave me the freedom to express, create, and grow in a space that felt authentic to who I was.
One of the highlights was the opportunity to audition for the Central School of Speech and Drama through ARU, which also led to a chance to volunteer there. That experience opened new doors and deepened my passion for the arts in ways I’ll never forget.
7. What advice would you give to current students as they’re preparing to graduate?
The world is your oyster, and there’s no wrong job or direction. Every step you take, even the uncertain ones, is part of your journey and will eventually align with where you're meant to be. Trust that each season in your life is preparing you for the next opportunity.
And most importantly, well done for getting this far! Graduation is an achievement in itself. As you move forward, I’d definitely recommend seeking out a coach or mentor who can help guide and support you as you shape the next steps in your career. Their insights can make all the difference as you navigate this exciting new chapter.
8. What do you know now that you wish you had known whilst studying?
I wish I had known that the decisions I made during my studies weren’t the be-all and end-all. I now realise that it’s okay to change direction, explore new opportunities, and enjoy the journey. There can often be unnecessary pressure to have everything figured out, but life doesn’t have to follow a straight path. It’s all about growth, learning, and giving yourself the freedom to evolve along the way.
9. Who was the biggest influence on your career?
The biggest influence on my career was the manager I had in my first job. He was incredibly supportive and believed in me from the very start. His trust and guidance gave me the confidence to pursue bigger goals, and I truly appreciate the foundation he helped me build. That belief early on made a huge difference in shaping my path.
10. What advice would you give your younger self?
I’d tell my younger self that taking risks is the game-changer for both life and career. You are unstoppable, don’t let nothing hold you back. Keep pushing, keep striving, and don’t settle until you’re living the life you truly desire. And most importantly, always remember that you are blessed with the potential to create the future you want.
11. Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
I really enjoy reading; there’s something about getting lost in a good book that lets me escape to another world. It’s my favourite way to unwind and let my mind roam.
12. What’s next?
That's a loaded question! But looking ahead, I’d love to write more books, take on more speaking engagements, and really focus on coaching others to step into their full potential. I’m passionate about helping people discover what they’re truly called to do and empowering them to go after it with confidence.
