Our Law Clinic offers free, independent and confidential legal advice across Cambridge, Chelmsford and through our online service, the UK more widely – giving communities vital access to justice.
We can support people with family, personal injury, medical negligence, employment and immigration law matters.
With limited availability of public funding for Legal Aid, we work collaboratively with local legal professionals, advice agencies and student advisors to meet some of the unmet need for initial legal advice.

Support@Court is a further service provided by ARU Law Clinic to assist people with a hearing about a family law matter but no lawyer to represent them. Trained students can offer you information, guidance and moral support through the court process. They cannot offer legal advice during these sessions.
The service runs most Wednesday mornings during term time at the Cambridge Magistrates’ Court. It is only available for people listed for a First Hearing and operates on a first come, first served basis so it is advisable to arrive early if you would like support from the team.
We take referrals from local organisations, such as Citizens Advice, or you can self-refer by booking an appointment.

We'll assess your enquiry for suitability and will then get in touch with you directly to arrange an appointment with an appropriate lawyer, if we have capacity.
Please note that the clinic operates on a limited schedule during the week and has planned closures at various times throughout the year.

In 2025 the Law Clinic was recognised for its contribution to pro bono services by the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire.
The Law Clinic received the Cambridge Law Society Excellence Award in both 2019 and 2021 for the Excellence in Pro Bono Category and was a highly commended runner-up in the Best New Pro Bono Activity in the LawWorks National Student Pro Bono awards in May 2019.
