BEd (Hons) Primary Education with QTS selection events

At ARU we are developing teachers for a life-long career in the sector within the local region.

We are looking to select the most dedicated and ambitious future teachers which is why we interview for all places on our BEd Primary Education with QTS. Our selection process also gives you the opportunity to get to know ARU and explore all that we have to offer.

If your application is successful, we’ll invite you to book onto one of our selection events and send you detailed information about the event.

What will you do at the selection event?

Our selection events consist of:

  • A presentation about the course
  • A tour of the campus
  • A 45-minute interview (including your 5-minute presentation)

You’ll have the opportunity to meet the BEd team and ask questions throughout the event.

What can you expect from the interview?

You will be interviewed by two people from our team of School of Education staff and education professionals. At the start of the interview, you will be asked to give your 5-minute presentation, followed by a few questions about your presentation.

The interview gives you an opportunity to talk about your experiences and why you want to be a primary school teacher. The interviewers will take notes so we have a record of what you say. You will also have the chance to ask us questions at the end of the interview. The interview, including the presentation, will take approximately 45 minutes.

What are we looking for at our selection event?

We are looking to select applicants who are committed and passionate about becoming a primary school teacher and are interested in how children learn. We will be recruiting applicants who have researched what the role of a primary teacher involves and have a good understanding of the course, including placements.

To be a successful applicant, you will need to show good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to reflect on your own knowledge and learning.

You can prepare for the selection event by thinking about:

  • Why do you want to be a teacher?
  • What would make you a good teacher? (Think about your skills, experience and knowledge.)
  • Do you have any relevant work experience you can talk about?
  • What do you already know about the course? Do your research.
  • Why do you want to be a student on this specific course at this specific university?

What should you do before attending?

  • Research the role of a teacher (see above)
  • Prepare your 5 min presentation (you will be sent details if your application is successful)
  • Check transport arrangements for ARU. You can find further details for each campus on the ARU website: Cambridge – Chelmsford - Peterborough.

How will we inform you of our decision?

Places on our BEd (Hons) Primary Education with QTS course are limited, and we’ll make our decisions based on the selection events. You’ll receive our decision via UCAS by the UCAS decision deadline.
