Access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is essential for economic development, human wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
Sustainable Development Goal 7 seeks to ensure universal access to modern energy services while accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy systems, improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy. As the world responds to climate change and growing energy demand, universities have an important role to play in developing the technologies, skills, evidence and partnerships needed to support a sustainable energy future.
At ARU, we contribute to the achievement of SDG 7 through our research, teaching, operational activities and partnerships. Our researchers examine energy transitions, renewable energy systems, climate policy, infrastructure resilience and sustainable resource management.
Through our courses and interdisciplinary learning opportunities, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to address the energy challenges facing communities, businesses and governments. At the same time, we continue to reduce the environmental impact of our own operations through investment in energy efficiency, renewable electricity and long-term decarbonisation initiatives.
As a university committed to sustainability and social responsibility, we recognise that the transition to clean energy must be both environmentally sustainable and socially equitable. Through innovation, collaboration and evidence-based decision-making, we are helping to support cleaner energy systems, improve energy resilience and contribute to a more sustainable future in line with the ambitions of Sustainable Development Goal 7.
We're a leading centre for research exploring the human dimensions of energy transitions, combining expertise in sustainability, behaviour change, policy, governance and citizen participation.
At ARU, students engage with energy-related issues through research-informed teaching, industry-focused degree programmes and advanced professional study opportunities.
Our operational approach to SDG 7 focuses on reducing energy consumption, increasing the use of clean energy, decarbonising campus operations and embedding energy management in our wider sustainability strategy.
Through collaboration, researchers at our Global Sustainability Institute help ensure that the transition to clean energy is informedby an understanding of how people, organisations and societies engage with energy systems.
