Entry requirements

We now show entry requirements for most courses as a range – for example, 112–96 UCAS points – to reflect the different qualifications and experiences our applicants bring. If your predicted grades fall within that range, you’re in a good position to apply.

FAQs about our tariff bands

We’ve introduced two-point tariff bands to make things simpler and clearer. Instead of listing lots of different entry requirements, we group them into small bands – like 112-96 UCAS points or 120-104. That way, you can quickly see where you fit and what your options are.

Why it’s good for you

  • You’ll know straight away if you’re in the right range for a course
  • It gives you flexibility – especially if your predicted grades are close to the band
  • It helps us make fairer, more consistent decisions

If your predicted or achieved UCAS points fall within the advertised band, you’re likely to receive an offer – especially if your application shows enthusiasm for the subject and meets any specific course requirements.

Example

If a course shows a tariff band of 112-96 points, and you’re predicted 96, you’re in the right place. If you’ve achieved 112, even better.

We also look at your personal statement, reference, and any relevant experience – not just your grades.

Because we know that no two applicants are the same. Using bands:

  • Reflects the real-life variation in predicted grades
  • Helps us be more inclusive and flexible
  • Makes it easier for you to understand your options

We want to make applying feel less like a test and more like a conversation.

Absolutely. We welcome students from all kinds of academic routes – A-levels, BTECs, Access to HE, international qualifications and more.

We’ll:

  • Translate your qualifications into UCAS points
  • Consider your full academic journey, not just your final grades
  • Support you with guidance and advice throughout the application process

If you’re unsure how your qualifications fit, just ask – we’re here to help.

A contextual offer is a reduced entry requirement based on your personal circumstances. We might make one if:

  • You’ve faced challenges in your education
  • You live in an area with lower university participation
  • You’ve been in care or received free school meals

It’s our way of recognising potential, not just grades.

If you’re eligible, your offer might be lower than the standard tariff band – and we’ll still support you to succeed.

If you're studying a Level 3 qualification in the UK, chances are it’s included in the UCAS tariff. Each grade you achieve is worth a certain number of points — for example, a Grade B at A level earns 40 tariff points.

To make things easy, UCAS has a tariff calculator where you can enter your predicted or achieved grades and see your total points. It’s a quick way to check if you meet the entry requirements for your chosen course.

Absolutely. Predicted grades are just one part of your application. At ARU, we look at the whole picture — your personal statement, your reference, and any qualifications you’ve already achieved.

We know that potential doesn’t always fit neatly into a points band. If your predicted or achieved grades are close to the published tariff, we’ll still consider your application carefully. We’re here to support your ambition and help you succeed.

Yes, you can. You’re welcome to apply for more than one course, even if they have different tariff requirements. Each application is considered on its own merits, so you can explore your options and find the course that’s right for you.

We’re proud to offer a supportive environment that helps you thrive — both academically and personally.

From day one, you’ll have access to a Personal Development Tutor who’ll guide you through your course and help you plan for the future. Our Student and Library Services team offers tailored support in areas like careers, money advice, and study skills — both on campus and online.

If you’ve received a contextual offer, we’ll make sure you get the support that’s right for you. For example, if you’ve declared a disability, our Disability and Dyslexia Service will reach out before you join to discuss your needs and help you settle in. You’ll also be invited to a specialist transition event during Welcome Week.

You can access one-to-one mentoring and study skills support, and join peer groups where you’ll meet other students with similar experiences. These sessions are led by advisers and shaped by students — so you’ll always feel heard.

The UCAS grades on entry tool is based on data from students who joined ARU in 2023 and 2024. It’s a helpful guide to understand the typical entry profile — but it’s not the full story.

The tool only includes students with three full A levels or a BTEC Extended Diploma, so it doesn’t reflect the wide range of qualifications and experiences our students bring. When choosing where to study, it’s worth considering other factors too — like course content, how you’ll be assessed, and the opportunities available to you as part of the wider student experience.
