Simulation in Medical and Healthcare Education PG Cert

Chelmsford

Year 1

Philosophies of Medical and Healthcare Education (30 credits)

Engage with fundamental questions concerning the aims, values and outcomes of education generally and within your area of practice. You’ll reflect on your own role in the learning process and consider how your personal values and goals influence your practice. Together, we’ll examine real world situations where policy doesn’t match up with practice, and you’ll use educational theory to explore possible solutions that work in your field of practice. You’ll take part in five in-person workshops (or five interactive webinars if you’re studying at a distance learner), supported by online resources and activities that deepen your learning and fit around your schedule. By the end, you'll: Critically reflect on your role within the education process; Gain a deeper understanding of how culture, society and educational philosophies affect learners and learning.

Principles of Simulation in Medical and Healthcare Education (30 credits)

This module has been developed for those involved in, or interested in, developing and leading simulation-based learning within medical and healthcare education. Delivered using blended learning, you will be encouraged to critically explore the evidence base behind the use of simulation in medical education, before attending two workshops based in our state-of-the-art simulation suite at Anglia Ruskin University. During these workshops you will experience simulation sessions as both a learner and facilitator, allowing them to see how the theoretical concepts behind simulation are applied in practice. The overall aims of this module are: To allow you to critically examine the use of simulation-based medical and healthcare education in your context; To critically enhance students' understanding and implementation of simulation-based medical and healthcare education in relation to your target group. You'll be supported through the design and development of a simulation-based learning activity for your specific context and, in a final, follow-up workshop, will lead this session with your fellow participants acting as co-facilitators and learners.
