An apprenticeship is a job with training, combining practical experience with academic learning.
At least 20% of your contracted working hours will be classed as 'off-the-job'. This time will be dedicated to developing the knowledge and skills needed to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship, and therefore are not part of your usual work duties.
The off-the-job learning will be delivered through university-led learning sessions and activities, and practical learning experiences in your usual work setting.
Delivery will be across three trimesters with apprentices coming to the ARU Peterborough campus one day a week during the 12-week trimesters
The focus is on face-to-face delivery, but all modules will have high quality online resources to support students with their off-campus study.
Assessment for this course will use a variety of techniques to develop and assess not only your technical knowledge and skills, but also professional skills such as communication and teamwork. Professionally relevant assessments will be used to help you experience the types of tasks you will undertake in the workplace. Some of your understanding of the more theoretical and technical aspects will be assessed though examination.
You will receive structured, insightful feedback throughout your course. As an integrated apprenticeship, the End Point Assessment (EPA) forms part of the course and will be carried out in the final year as the Major Project (EPA) module.
This course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators which comprises of The Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers and together represent some 100,000 of the world's leading professional engineers.
ICE is the professional membership body that supports and promotes the professional standards of civil engineers across the industry and represents the interest of the profession at a national level. On completing your apprenticeship, you will be able to independently apply for professional Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status through the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
