Sporting spotlight: Biomedical Campus runners
On 18 May, six runners from ARU gave something new a go by taking part in the Cambridge Biomedical Campus 5k/10k. They tell us how they got on.
Each participant had a unique reason for taking part in the event for the first time.
Isha and Martina: reaching a personal milestone together
This was Sports Science student Isha's first-ever 5k race. She completed the run with her coursemate Martina. Isha says:
"It was a huge personal milestone for me. I was really nervous leading up to it, but my friend Martina was a huge source of support. She encouraged me from the very beginning and even ran the race with me, constantly motivating me to keep going.
"Thanks to her support and my determination, I was able to finish the race, and it felt like an amazing accomplishment. Now, I'm feeling inspired and ready to take on my next challenge: a 10k race."
El: overcoming pre-race nerves

Sport Participation Officer El took part in her first ever 10k race. She says:
"I’ve been running a lot recently to build up my endurance and distance, and wanted to put it to good use. I also wanted to gain more race experience as I get really nervous beforehand, and have a big race I want to enter next year. Therefore, I entered the Biomedical Campus 10k to build up my confidence and train my brain to relax on race day.
"Obviously I was quite nervous beforehand, but the atmosphere was so positive and encouraging, and there was plenty of support around the course. I came away with a 10k personal best and I was so proud of myself after. It's a great feeling!"
Grace, Bernardo and Taylor: just for fun

Science and Engineering Technician and Associate Lecturers Grace, Bernardo, and Taylor took on the 5k race together. Looking to try something different as a group, and united by their shared love of running, they decided to enter their first race as a team. Here's what they had to say:
"The event was amazing and it was lovely to see parts of the campus and Cambridge that you may not visit often. It had an amazing atmosphere, especially on the start line – not only did other runners cheer each other on, there were lots of spectators and marshals cheering us along the way too!
"My friends and I entered just to do something different together, we all love running but didn't enter with any goals in mind, other than to have a laugh. We definitely did have fun, and all three of us got race personal bests too!"
Well done to our team of runners!
