#ThinkBigARU pitching competition

We are delighted to announce a new pitching competition, #ThinkBigARU. We are now on the lookout for student and graduate entrepreneurs who have a business idea and want to take it further.

This is a fantastic opportunity open to all students and recent graduates (up to three years) who have a start-up idea to gain experience pitching to real business people and potential investors.

All entrants who get to the pitching stage of the competition, even if they are ultimately unsuccessful in securing funding, will be eligible for an exclusive package. You will receive:

  • access to a dedicated co-working space on ARU's Cambridge campus to accelerate your business idea for six months
  • tailored mentoring and guidance for your business through our Entrepreneurs in Residence and expert panels
  • access to an exclusive network of entrepreneurs across the UK, facilitating invaluable connections and collaborations
  • a one-on-one appointment with a legal advisor to navigate the legal aspects of your venture
  • membership of the ARU Entrepreneurs' Community – a vibrant ecosystem of like-minded individuals
  • the possibility of appearing in Inside AREA magazine and on the ARU Start-up Podcast, providing a platform to showcase your venture.

The pitching competition will take place on our Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough campuses.

Any ARU student or recent graduate (within the last three years).

Can non-ARU students enter?

A: Yes, but at least one member of the team must be a current ARU student or recent graduate (up to three years).

How do I enter?

You can enter by filling in our MS Teams form, which includes a section to provide a link to your one-minute video pitch – don’t forget to clearly state the problem or customer need, your proposed solution, and your vision for success.

What is the deadline for entries?

All entries must be received no later than midday on 22 March 2024.

When will I find out if I have been selected to pitch?

Notifications to entrants will be sent out by 19 April 2024.

When and where will the pitches take place?

Pitches will take place on Monday 20 May on the Cambridge campus.

Will I be guaranteed investment?

No, investment is not guaranteed, as your business would need to be at an appropriate stage and a good match for the investors, but you could be in with a chance to receive funding to take your idea to the next level.

Additionally, other support from Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs), Anglia Ruskin Enterprise Academy (AREA) and specialist advisers will be available to help you take the next step.

Feedback on your pitch will be provided and you may then have the opportunity to re-pitch at a future event.
