We work with members of the public and sports teams in and around Cambridge to allow the community to access injury assessment and rehabilitation while helping our students build their portfolio of practice.

Our Clinic boasts eight treatment bays, alongside a spacious rehabilitation space. Our students are supervised by qualified sports therapists, strength and conditioning coaches and/or sports rehabilitators.

Our Sport and Exercise Therapy BSc (Hons) had its first intake of students in 2019, and they graduated in the summer of 2022. The third floor of Compass House was transformed prior to this intake into a teaching and clinic space, allowing us to open it up to the public and university members for appointments.

Sports therapy: assessment and treatment appointments

Whether you have a sudden injury or a long-term niggle, the student will perform a full history and assessment with you.

They will then work with you to plan a rehabilitation strategy directed at the cause of the pain or injury site, using a wide range of approaches including:

  • joint mobilisation and movement
  • soft tissue release
  • exercise prescription and education
  • taping
  • prevention plans for the future.

If required, they will book a follow-up appointment to further guide you through your rehabilitation.

Sports massage

Our students offer sports massages. These are beneficial pre- or post-exercise, for general relaxation, to increase muscle flexibility, and more.

The student will take a full medical history to establish treatment suitability, perform a treatment, and book a follow-up appointment if required.

Sports therapy

Working together with your student sports therapist allows you to get back stronger and improve any symptoms you may be experiencing and preventing from happening again by strengthening surrounding muscles, improving mobility and stability.

In most cases, you will be booked in for numerous follow up appointments to support and guide you through your exercise rehabilitation.

Sports massage

  • Promotes relaxation
  • Reduces stress and related muscle tension
  • Improves cognitive function
  • Improves muscle flexibility
  • Improves sleep

You may experience some soreness after your appointment, which tends to be due to the deep tissue work performed during a sports massage. We advise that you drink plenty of water and keep moving after your appointment.
