Here are a few comments from our team members:
“After completing my undergraduate degree in Sport & Exercise Science at Anglia Ruskin University, I am continuing my studies here on the Masters course. Studying here has given me so many opportunities to accomplish things I would never have thought of, both from my course and from the University in general. I try to get involved with as many things as I can, there are always opportunities to help with current research studies in the labs and also analysing the data away from the labs. I chose to get involved with the consultancy team because I want to be able to represent the university and invite the public in to show what we can do with the equipment we have. I feel very privileged being a Sport & Exercise Science student at ARU, we are trusted with a wide range of equipment and are able to book out the labs and practice what we are taught in our lectures and seminars. I have developed a wide range of skills, from running physiological exercise tests, taking body composition measurements to being part of a committee on a new society and working part-time in Student Services at ARU.”
"I am a second-year student of Sports and Exercise Science. I chose to be part of the consultancy team to develop my skills and I feel very privileged to be part of this project. I find it all very interesting and exciting. I work as a personal trainer and it is fantastic to be able to understand and explain in more detail what happens in and to the body when we exercise. Exercise is my passion and I love to help others to improve. Studying here and working at the exercise lab is definitely preparing me for a wider choice of work for when I finish my degree."
“I am currently in my third year of study at Anglia Ruskin University where I decided to study sport & exercise science with a foundation year. On my journey so far, I have gained a wealth of experience through the many opportunities that Anglia Ruskin has provided me and been involved in some fantastic research projects, one of which was working with the metabolic science unit at Addenbrookes Hospital.
"As a student I am very proactive and try to grasp every opportunity that comes my way, which has lead me to be involved in the exercise testing consultancy. I’m excited to be a part of such an enthusiastic and professional team where I am able to grow as a student and acquire essential skills to prepare me for further study or work outside of education. The consultancy also allows me to test in BASES accredited labs where we get to use a wide variety of equipment and provide a clinical and professional service to the public.”
“Throughout my time at university I have learnt that the most valuable things you can learn are not from sat in lectures week in week out, but actually from engaging in the correct extra-curricular activities. These for me have included being a participant in research projects, supporting lecturers with their own studies, volunteering at external businesses, and the best of them all being within the Performance and Exercise Testing Consultancy team. The experience I have gained through the consultancy has been exponential, and believe the knowledge I have learnt will prove valuable in the career path I choose to pursue. Being able to deliver professional services to members of the public and be confident in doing so has been both fulfilling and a great personal achievement.”
