Researcher Development Programme

Here at Anglia Ruskin, the Research Development Team is responsible for enhancing and supporting the research environment.

A major part of our work is providing researcher development courses, workshops and seminars, particularly for postgraduate research students and their supervisors, and early career researchers. Every year, we also organise a Students’ Research Conference.

Our development programme encompasses the mandatory core training covering Research Proposals, Effective Presentations, Academic Writing, Thesis and Examination Preparation, and Research Ethics. Book training courses online through PGR Pro.

You can also access online courses covering skills sets and professional development for researchers.

As well as researcher development, we engage with other initiatives, including:

  • being responsible for Anglia Ruskin's involvement in the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) and similar exercises
  • supporting institutional preparations for the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
  • getting involved with implementing the various national Concordats that set out best practice requirements for the research environment.

Researcher Development Framework

The Researcher Development Framework (RDF) is a major new approach to researcher development, to enhance our capacity to build the UK workforce, develop world-class researchers and build our research base. It's a professional development framework for planning, promoting and supporting the personal, professional and career development of researchers in higher education. The RDF articulates the knowledge, behaviours and attributes of successful researchers and encourages people to realise their potential.

The Framework is designed for:

  • researchers to evaluate and plan their professional development
  • managers and supervisors of researchers
  • trainers, developers, human resources specialists and careers advisors who are involved in the planning and provision of support for researchers’ development.
