Why research at ARU?

Join an ambitious institution with a continually increasing reputation for generating outstanding, impactful research.

Whatever stage you're at in your research career, we offer a supportive environment and a wealth of development and collaboration opportunities to help you excel.

A supportive environment

Our support for researchers includes:

A spirit of collaboration

At ARU, you'll rub shoulders with national and international experts across four faculties: Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Health, Medicine, and Social Care; and Science and Engineering.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF), we submitted research in 16 subject areas, and nine of those have achieved world-leading impact.

We facilitate collaborative research through our six research institutes and our variety of research centres and groups.

Research themes

Our three research themes bring together academics with shared interests from across our campuses and faculties, helping generate new ideas and collaborations.

They also offer our researchers opportunities to share their work internally and externally, and provide funding for eligible ARU research projects.

Health, Performance and Wellbeing

Addressing health inequalities and improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities, the planet and society as a whole.

Safe and Inclusive Communities

Supporting, developing, and promoting research, innovation and impact across a range of prevalent and emerging societal issues.

Sustainable Futures

Working with regional, national, and international stakeholders to support transformations towards environmentally and socially just societies.
