Richard's interests lie in combining environmental sustainability with the aesthetics and tectonics of architecture by exploring the complex relationship between site context, passive design techniques, function and buildability to create architecture that transcends mediocrity.
Having served an apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery upon leaving school, Richard worked in all aspects of the construction industry and realised a passion for all things architectural that he wanted to explore further. After working in Germany for two years and travelling through Thailand and Malaysia, he decided to return to university in 1997 to further his knowledge and understanding.
Richard has now tutored in architecture and technology at Anglia Ruskin since 2005. He has developed his teaching in parallel with establishing a small, award-winning design and research studio in 2002, where he practices as a Chartered Architectural Technologist.
