Paul Bogle

Paul Bogle is our University Secretary & Clerk having joined ARU in 2017. A member of the Vice Chancellor’s Group and the University Executive Team, his leadership responsibilities include governance, data governance, legal and company matters, risk management, Prevent & Safeguarding, security, visa compliance, student discipline and complaints.

Background

Graduating with a LLB law degree from Bristol University, he qualified as a Barrister and was called to the Bar in 1995. Paul originally practised as a family law barrister advocating in private and public law cases. He gained valuable experience in governance, employment law and education matters at Essex County Council based in Chelmsford where he was Secretary to the School Organisation Committee and a legal advisor to over 500 Essex schools.

Upon Canterbury Christ Church University acquiring University title in 2005, Paul was appointed to a new role as their General Counsel and Clerk leading a number of their developments and strengthening governance and professional services as a member of the Senior Management Team for over a decade.

He is a Company Director on a number of ARU’s subsidiary companies and academic partnerships and supports a Multi Academy Trust of Essex schools and academies as a Trustee.

Paul's HE sector networks include being the representative of ARU on the Association of Heads of University Administration and membership of the UCEA Health & Safety Committee and the Association of University Legal Practitioners.
