Background

With 15 years of experience in metal AM, Martin has worked across the entire process chain, from metal powder supply to finished parts production. His career in AM began at one of the UK’s first successful service providers, before moving on to a leading manufacturing technology provider.

At 3T RPD, Dr McMahon helped position the UK at the forefront of metal AM, achieving several national and global firsts, such as qualifying metal AM parts for the oil and gas sector and titanium for cranio-maxillofacial implants. His work also included developing new materials and post-processing techniques. At Renishaw, Dr McMahon contributed to hardware upgrades for laser powder bed fusion systems and helped to develop a global network of AM solution centres.

Before founding M A M Solutions, where he now works as a consultant to industry, Dr McMahon had several roles within the metal powder supply chain. His other current roles include Technical Consultant and contributor to Metal AM magazine, and as a volunteer on the SAE AMSAM - Metals committee.
