Background

After completing his MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare, Lorenzo spent seven years working in primate conservation in West and Central African countries. In Côte d'Ivoire he helped establish the country’s first primate sanctuary and later led field operations at two long-term great ape research sites in Gabon. These experiences deepened his interest in human-wildlife conflicts, particularly those linked with habitat loss due to agricultural expansion.

Lorenzo’s PhD investigates whether wildlife-friendly farming certifications are a viable solution for both local communities and primates. His study looks closely at certified coffee and cocoa, in Indonesia and Côte d’Ivoire respectively.
