Laura is an urban geographer who completed her undergraduate and master’s degree at the University of Münster. For over three years she worked as a research assistant in Münster’s Urban Geography research group. Her master’s thesis examined community responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting everyday social infrastructures often overlooked by mainstream crisis management. She co-taught a seminar on urban health, gender and care for medical students at Justus Liebig University Giessen. She has worked with the German development agency GIZ in Bonn and Windhoek, Namibia, on decentralised governance and housing for low-income groups.
Across her work on urban health, housing, and governance, Laura has been drawn to questions of infrastructure provision, power, access and care. Her doctoral research examines the relationship between sustainability and affluence, asking how green interventions can unintentionally reproduce and excacerbate socio-spatial inequalities. Bringing cities in the UK and South Africa into conversation, she explores who benefits from urban climate initiatives and who is left out. Her work draws on feminist and decolonial approaches and ethnographic methods.
