Professor Kamil Omoteso

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education)

Professor Kamil Omoteso is our Deputy Vice Chancellor for Education, responsible for strengthening ARU's commitment to excellence in education and inclusivity.

Background

In his role at ARU, Kamil leads on the development and delivery of education strategies as well as all matters relating to learning and teaching; student experience; quality assurance and enhancement; academic regulatory compliance; academic portfolio development; and curriculum enhancement.

Kamil joined Anglia Ruskin University in January 2025 from the University of Derby, where he served as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences. As the Executive Lead for Institutional Equity at Derby, his leadership in fostering an inclusive culture led to improved EDI outcomes and enhanced sense of belonging among students and staff across the university.

With a background in accounting and governance – including professional experience in accounting and auditing roles in the public and private sectors – Kamil began his academic career at the Lagos State University, Nigeria, in 2001. From 2003 to 2018, he held academic positions at De Montfort University and Coventry University. He also served on the Council of the Chartered Association of Business Schools and its Academic Journal Guide’s Management Board from 2019-2024.

Kamil continues to contribute to the academic community through his research and scholarship. His research interests include Financial Reporting, Accountability, Governance, Ethics and IT impact on organisations. His research has been published in leading accounting and business journals, including British Accounting Review, European Management Review, Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation and Journal of Business Ethics. His research has influenced accounting practices particularly in the areas of IT adoption as well as government policies in the areas of control of corruption. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Author Contribution at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence, and between 2019 and 2024, he served on the Management Board of the Academic Journal Guide of Chartered Association of Business Schools.

Outside of work, Kamil enjoys walking and running. He also provides counselling and career support to youths and community-based organisations. He was the founding Chair of the Educational Support Initiative for Africa (ESIfA), which has donated over 75,000 books and academic journals to universities across Africa.
