Jane Charman
Jane Charman is a Lecturer in Equine at ARU Writtle and a qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist with expertise in equine health, welfare, rehabilitation and performance. Drawing on extensive clinical experience with both horses and dogs, as well as business leadership within animal rehabilitation, she is committed to developing evidence-based practitioners equipped for successful careers across the equine and animal sectors.

Jane Charman joined ARU Writtle as a Lecturer in Equine in March 2026. A qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist, she combines higher education teaching with extensive clinical experience in equine and canine rehabilitation, bringing contemporary industry knowledge and evidence-based practice into her teaching. Her academic interests focus on equine health, welfare, rehabilitation and performance, with a particular emphasis on translating research into practical application.
Alongside her academic role, Jane is the founder and director of Pet Therapy Rooms, a specialist canine rehabilitation and hydrotherapy centre. Her experience as both a clinician and business owner provides students with valuable insight into professional practice, animal welfare, rehabilitation and entrepreneurship. She is an active member of RAMP (Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners) and the Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA), maintaining strong links with industry and supporting the development of future professionals across the equine and animal sectors.
