James holds a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Southampton and a PhD from University College London. He undertook postdoctoral training at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, University of Cambridge (2012–2019) with Prof Scottie Robinson, where he developed his research programme in membrane trafficking and extracellular vesicle biology.
Before joining ARU in 2026, James was a group leader at the Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge (2019 – 2026). James currently holds a Sir Henry Dale Fellowship (2020 – 2026) and maintains affiliations with two Departments at University of Cambridge.
His areas of expertise include Cell and molecular biology, membrane traffic, virology and immunology.
