Helen Goodey is an experienced Crime Scene Investigator with over 20 years’ experience in the Metropolitan Police service. Throughout her career, she specialised as a Sexual Offence Liaison Officer (SOLO), a Mental Health Support Officer, and a Firearms Recovery Officer.

Background

Helen comes from a background in forensics, having worked for over 20 years as a Crime Scene Investigator within the Metropolitan Police service. During this time, she chose to specialise in the area of firearms, and spent time as a dedicated Firearm Recovery Officer. She was part of the SOLO initiative as a dedicated Sexual Offence Liaison Officer, and also worked as a Blue Light Champion, focusing on mental health and wellbeing within the Forensic Services team.

Helen joined the Crime and Investigative Studies team at ARU in January 2026.

Helen's relevant interests include:

  • Firearms – Making safe, conversion of blank firing weapons, and application of firearm legislation.
  • Crime scene examination methods and approach.
  • Mental health and wellbeing of Crime Scene Investigators.
