Hashim is an experienced senior lecturer in mechanical engineering with a demonstrated history of leadership in the HE sector. He was awarded a BEng in Mechanical Engineering in 2008, a PhD in Polymer Composite Material Science in 2014, a PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE) in 2017 and an MBA in 2021.
Hashim has a proven ability to work as part of a team, can communicate effectively and has access to a network of contacts in academia and industry.
Hashim began his academic career as an assistant lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Engineering, and joined ARU Peterborough from his previous role as Senior Lecturer developing a brand-new engineering department at Chichester University.
Such experiences have given Hashim the breadth of skills and depth of knowledge required to effectively teach challenging subjects such as engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science and computer-aided engineering to cohorts of over 150 students.
Alongside his teaching and administrative duties, Hashim is actively pursuing research in the development and characterisation of composite materials using various production methods, mechanical testing, analytical science and computational techniques such as the finite element method.
Thus far, he has presented his research findings to the British Plastics Federation (BPF), Alliance of Rotational Moulding Organisations (ARMO) and Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). In total, he has published four scientific papers and three presentations, and has written a technical article for an industrial magazine.
Hashim supervised three PhD students at Manchester Metropolitan University in their research investigating the application of finite element analysis (FEA) to model rotationally moulded polymer composite laminate structures, the mechanical properties of titanium-polymer composites for dental applications and the manufacturing of biopolymers for structural components.
