Gareth joined the Global Sustainability Institute in February 2026 as a postdoctoral research fellow on the project ‘Shifting mindsets in the Actuarial profession: from natural capital to nature-centrism’.
Gareth joined the GSI following the completion of his PhD in Business Studies (Accounting and Finance) at Cardiff University where his research explored the social and environmental discourse surrounding proposed seabed mining activities within the Pacific.
This research was a qualitative project aimed at understanding the conflict surrounding this emerging industry with a consideration of the role accounting can play in facilitating the expression of perspectives that have traditionally been excluded from the accounting discourse. In addition to his research, Gareth has taught upon various aspects of both financial and management accounting and been enabled to explore themes of his research through modules related to the practice of sustainability reporting.
