Emily’s expertise spans marketing, tourism, and mega-event studies, informed by her PhD on the impact of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Japan’s tourism industry. As Deputy Head of School for Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, she supports the leadership of undergraduate courses and degree apprenticeships.

Background

Emily joined ARU in 2020 as an Associate Lecturer before becoming a Lecturer in Marketing and Strategy in 2021. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in July 2025 and has served as Deputy Head of School for Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MET) since April 2021. As Deputy Head of School, she has responsibility for undergraduate provision and degree apprenticeships. Emily also supports quality and partnership activity and acts as a Link Tutor for a faculty partnership.

Emily completed her PhD at Coventry University in 2025. Her research, Reconfiguring Tourism for Sustainable Development: The Impact of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Japan’s Tourism Industry, explores how major events shape tourism and long-term industry development.

She has led and taught across a range of modules, including International Marketing and Brand Management (Level 7), Tourism Management and Innovation (Level 5), and Specialist Events Planning (Level 5).

Emily completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education in 2023 and holds Fellowship of Advance HE.
